Meet Kathy Kleinlein

Biography

After graduating from college in 1971 with a degree in English (M.A. in English in 1974), Kathy taught in the New York City Public School System, the Matawan Regional School District and at Middlesex County Community College.

In 1974, she became the first woman directly commissioned into the Army National Guard in the United States where she ultimately obtained the rank of Captain. Some of her military experiences include firing a 155 howitzer, driving a tank, and qualifying on the M60 machine gun. Kathy left teaching in 1979 and entered the business community to eventually become an executive in the field of training and development. Kathy has worked for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Sterling Drug, and before moving down to Englewood, was Director of Training and Development for North and South America for Reuters. During her business career, Kathy obtained an M.B.A. from Rutger’s University.

Upon moving to Florida, she quickly became involved in the community. Just a few of the boards and organizations on which Kathy serves or has served include: Vice-Chair of the Education Foundation, Chair of the Sarasota County Library Advisory Board, Sarasota County Planning Commission, Reinventing Government Committee, County Administrator Search Committee, Florida Bar Grievance Committee,

Kathy and Ken Kleinlein

Kathy is married to Ken Kleinlein, a former First Grade NYC Detective. Originally from New York, the Kleinleins moved to Florida from New Jersey in 1991. Kathy With her Husband Ken They began visiting Sarasota County when Kathy’s parents moved to Venice in 1977. Kathy and Ken have two grown children and five grandchildren. Ken is currently an elected member of the Sarasota County Charter Review Board, an executive board member of Do The Right Thing for Kids in Sarasota, a member of the Englewood Area Planning Advisory Board, and also writes a column for the Englewood Sun Herald called Crime Scene.
Venice Foundation Grant Screening Committee, the Bon Secours St. Joseph Hospital Board of Directors, Englewood Interagency Council Board of Directors, Community Alliance of Sarasota, League of Women Voters, the Civic League, American Association of University Women, and others.

She holds the distinction of being included in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.

Kathy currently assists the Diocese of Venice with its youth and adult education programs.
